Common patterns we see

Chemistry at home can come in bursts for a student with ADHD: clear understanding in one moment, then a sudden drop in focus when the page becomes crowded. Questions may be rushed, calculation steps skipped, or symbols, quantities and instructions mixed together before the student has had time to sort them.

A clear layout and one target at a time can make the work easier to hold onto. Short sessions, quick checks for accuracy and regular returns to core ideas help reduce the effect of patchy routines, so confidence is less likely to dip after a frustrating run.

What progress looks like

Slider Left Arrow Slider Right Arrow

01

At home, you may notice Chemistry progress in the small practical details of the day: how long it takes to begin, what your child reaches for, and whether a tricky idea survives beyond one session.

02

The move into a Chemistry session becomes shorter and less fraught. Your child may sit down and open their materials without a long negotiation first.

03

During calculations, such as balancing equations or working out concentrations, they begin to use the periodic table or their notes before asking you for the missing information.

04

Ideas that previously needed several explanations start to reappear in new work. They might recall how electrons are arranged in shells, or why acids react as they do, and apply part of that understanding to a fresh question.

05

A simple home practical links back to the written Chemistry more readily. The student makes some attempt to connect what they observed with the chemical explanation behind it.

06

For longer written tasks, the change may be in the first move. Instead of sitting through a long period of apparent paralysis, they may start by noting the process, naming the reaction or putting one usable sentence down.

07

Because homeschool routines do not have the same external structure as school, progress can look especially uneven from week to week. The tutor keeps a view of the overall direction and discusses that with you regularly, rather than judging the work from one difficult session.
