My experience with special educational needs
I am a mum of two AuDHD teen/tweens and have experience working in education as a teacher and tutor for 20 years. I have worked in school and home settings with students who have Autism and ADHD as well as SEMH and I help students to build confidence and enjoyment in learning again after periods out of education.
A bit about me
I think of myself as a nurturer. I love to meet people and help them to work through their worries to achieve what they want from their education. I am a strong believer that everyone should be able to access education regardless of whether they fit into the confines of mainstream education. I have worked with students who have felt like they didn’t know how to approach studying again after having a traumatic time in school or trying to navigate societal expectations. I have helped them to achieve independence in study and top grades in subjects they enjoy, with a renewed love for learning too! Each session will start by me meeting you exactly where you are at. No expectations, just support to move forwards at a pace that suits you. I can guide you to meet achievable goals, or work more flexibly depending on what feels right.
My teaching philosophy
My approach is student led and trauma informed. I also teach yoga and as a Psychology teacher, I know a lot about the nervous system and trauma response and how to support student regulation. Everyone is different so lessons just start with a check in and we go from there. You can tell me if we are moving too fast or too slow, if you want to go over something again, or move on to a new topic. You can choose the order of study or I can take the lead to structure things more rigidly for you. We work together towards your chosen goals! I am so looking forward to meeting you!! 🌞

Lauren has been an incredible asset in my daughters life over the last year. She has been consistent and reliable and completely trustworthy. Lauren is an excellent teacher making the lessons feel fun and interactive. Lauren is calm, flexible and understanding being able to work with my daughters needs. Her patience to allow students time to process and work at their own pace is excellent, while still managing to stay on track to cover everything needed. My daughter is currently achieving grade 9 at GCSE level, solely from working with Lauren. I would happily recommend Lauren as a tutor and mentor, we will miss her now our lessons are finished.

Lauren is an excellent tutor in every way. She is caring, kind, knowledgeable, supportive, and very committed to nurturing and developing her students, both in terms of their academic learning as well as their personal development. She is very empathic, respects her students, and is genuinely interested in really listening to them, learning from them, and valuing them as individuals. Lauren knows her subject very well, and her enthusiasm about psychology is infectious: her students cannot help but enjoy it too! She is able to communicate the subject highly effectively to students, in a way that allows them to explore and not just absorb the material. She is adaptable in her teaching methods, is always very well prepared with useful resources, and able to judge exactly what is required to meet her students’ needs. Lauren works extremely well with students with additional needs. She is able to build strong relationships and create a sense of safety for students, allowing them to thrive and enjoy the learning. She approaches her students with interest and without judgement, getting to know and understand them, in order to provide the best possible learning environment to meet their individual needs. She genuinely wants her students to do the best they can and achieve what they want to achieve for themselves, and she supports them to do that without putting them under pressure or imposing any expectation of her desired outcomes on them. I cannot recommend Lauren highly enough for any teaching/tutoring role. She single-handedly taught my daughter the entire Psychology A-Level curriculum in one year, helping her to achieve the results my daughter was aiming for and to love learning again. The positive impact Lauren had, however, extended well beyond the scope of getting through the exams to, amongst others, helping my daughter to build her confidence and self-esteem. She also communicates highly effectively with parents/carers. Lauren would be a great asset to any student or group of students, and any staff team.
