My experience with special educational needs
I am an experienced teacher of 13 years and before this worked with children in nurseries and preschools for 7 years. I have taught in mainstream schools across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, adapting learning for children with SEND. For the past five years, I have specialised in teaching children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities aged 5–19 across a wide range of academic levels. I tailor lessons carefully to individual needs so every child feels supported and able to succeed. I adapt the National Curriculum to suit each child’s starting point, making learning accessible, engaging and achievable. I have experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, communication and language difficulties, learning delays, physical disabilities, medical conditions, and children who benefit from emotional or behavioural support.
A bit about me
I have a young son, and PA for a child with physical disabilities on a weekly basis. I am a patient, nurturing, and dedicated person who is passionate about helping children build confidence and enjoy learning. I understand that every child is unique, and I take the time to get to know each learner, fostering positive relationships so I can support your child in the best possible way. Building strong, trusting relationships with both children and parents is very important to me. I aim to create a safe, positive environment where children feel valued, understood, and proud of their progress.
My teaching philosophy
My teaching approach is calm, structured, and highly personalised to each child. I break learning down into small, manageable steps and use visual aids, repetition, and practical activities to support understanding and retention. I focus not only on academic progress but also on developing independence, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning. I celebrate holistic success, no matter how small each step is, and work closely with parents to ensure consistency and ongoing support outside of sessions. I have a child centred approach, ensuring I foster a positive relationship with each of my students. My goal is to help every child feel capable, motivated, and ready to reach their full potential.

Lauren is an amazing tutor and any young (or older) person would be lucky to have her! She is enthusiastic and fun and can motivate even the most unwilling student (my daughter for instance) to read and enjoy their learning like nobody I know. She is knowledgeable about all aspects of English and well read and up to date with training and current content. Lauren is great with young people with additional needs after many years working in a school with students with multiple and complex learning needs, and communicates with her students at all levels. She is superb, so don't hesitate if you're thinking of taking her on!

I am so grateful for the support and guidance my daughter received from Lauren. From the very beginning, she was patient, encouraging, and incredibly knowledgeable. My daughter’s confidence in English has grown massively, and I’ve noticed a real improvement in her understanding of the subject . Lessons were always well organised, engaging, and tailored to her individual needs. Lauren created such a positive learning environment that my daughter actually looked forward to her sessions each week. I would highly recommend her to any parent looking for a supportive, reliable, and effective English tutor.
