My experience with special educational needs

I have over 15 years’ teaching experience across primary, middle, secondary schools and alternative provision. During this time, I’ve worked closely with SENCos/ALNCos to build a deep understanding of learners’ needs and create personalised support that reflects each child. I now provide 1:1 maths tutoring for learners with a wide range of learning profiles, including ASD, ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. With younger learners, I focus on strengthening number sense through visuals and online manipulatives. With older learners, I continue using visuals and pair them with spaced learning techniques to support long‑term memory. I keep tasks short and manageable, and use tools such as number lines and place value sliders to make learning clearer. I mainly teach maths from Year 4 to GCSE (WJEC). However, I can also combine maths with English or other primary subjects.

A bit about me

I live in Wales with my family and love walking my cockerpoo on our beautiful beaches. I’m a qualified teacher with a STEM degree and an enhanced DBS on the Update Service. I have a particular interest in neurodiversity. My daughter’s AuDHD diagnosis encouraged our family to reflect more closely, and we recognise ASD or ADHD traits within ourselves too. This lived experience helps me understand neurodiversity with empathy and patience. We embrace the creativity and energy it brings while learning strategies to regulate during the more challenging moments.

My teaching philosophy

For me, teaching is about relationships, connection and trust. I encourage you to book a free introductory session so you can see whether I’m the right fit for your child. I take time to understand each learner - their anxieties, their difficulties and their interests - so that I can provide learning that feels personal and supportive. I’m patient and encouraging and I create an environment where mistakes are part of learning and “having a go” is celebrated. I welcome lots of questions and love seeing confidence grow. I work to identify and close gaps, gently and steadily, and I enjoy making learning engaging, using memorable, light‑hearted ways to help ideas stick.

Select all the areas that apply. This will help us find the right expert.
Academic & subject support
Learning & study skills

Subject tutoring focuses on what is being learned (e.g., “I need help with Algebra.”).
Skills coaching focuses on how it is learned (e.g., “I need help getting organised to study for Algebra.”).

Choose the main path you want to explore first. You’ll be able to review expert profiles before making any decisions.
