Common patterns we see

GCSE Physics does not only ask students to remember facts. Autistic students may understand the content, but lose marks when questions are wordy, when explanations are needed, or when they have to switch quickly between formulae, units and written answers. Under time pressure, small errors can creep in and each step can feel harder to track.

Clear language and a steady order of working can reduce that pressure. Breaking tasks into manageable stages, practising exam questions in a familiar routine and keeping workloads realistic can make Physics practice feel calmer and more purposeful.

What progress looks like

Slider Left Arrow Slider Right Arrow

01

For GCSE Physics, progress often begins when a question feels less like a wall of information and more like something that can be sorted.

02

Your child may start by separating what is known, what is being asked, and which equation might help. They are no longer reacting to the whole page at once.

03

When a topic depends on earlier work, such as using forces before momentum or energy stores before efficiency, they can return to that earlier step without feeling they have failed or gone backwards.

04

Calculation work becomes easier to follow. Units are written beside values, conversions happen in a set order, and there is enough working for the tutor to see where the method is secure.

05

Required practicals feel less vague when the sequence is clearer. Your child may be able to describe changing one variable, measuring another, and keeping control variables the same.

06

Command words begin to guide the answer. “Describe”, “explain” and “calculate” start to mean different kinds of response, rather than all feeling like the same general instruction.

07

With diagrams, graphs or unfamiliar contexts, they use a practised first step, such as labelling the Physics involved before trying to answer.

08

Some weeks will feel less settled, especially when the wording changes or a new topic shifts the rules again. The tutor looks at whether structure, units, practical understanding and exam language are becoming more reliable across sessions.
