My experience with special educational needs

As a tutor with nearly five years experience, I have experience supporting and working with students with a range special educational needs. Most recently, for the last 18 months, I have worked closely with a student with a range of special educational needs, several times a week, supporting them in preparing for their French GCSE, which due to several factors, was not considered as a possibility by them or their family when we first began work together. Working with this student and their family consistently over the last 18 months, building a relationship of trust and seeing a real growth in not only their academic confidence but confidence in themselves and their social interactions specifically, has been truly professionally and personally gratifying.

A bit about me

My name is Victoria, and I've been tutoring French for almost five years now, and I love it. I started tutoring during university, and my passion for making French accessible and most importantly enjoyable, has only grown from there. I've worked with several students with SEN, most recently, working closely with and supporting one student in particular, from beginner level through to their GCSE. Working closely with this student and being there with them throughout their academic and self-confidence journey, has really allowed me to see the value of being flexible in my tutoring, and really keeping your interests and learning style at the very heart of my lessons.

My teaching philosophy

The main words that I would use to describe my teaching approach are flexible and personal. My soul aim from my lessons is to work with you to achieve your specific goals, whatever they may be, and my approach to this is to work with you to build a personalised plan through lessons that centre around your interests and that always follow the specific ways that you like to learn. You will be in the driver's seat and I will be there to guide and support you in your academic journey every step of the way.

Victoria has been tutoring our girls (6 and 11 years old) for a year and she has been amazing in engaging with them individually and tailoring their french lessons to their respective level while including their interests (e.g. drawings as our 6 years old loves her art and craft). She challenges them with harder exercises if she feels they are doing well and each week creates fun online games and activities to recap their current and previous lessons. Victoria is always kind and encouraging and the girls look forward to their lessons each week.
