My experience with special educational needs
With 15 years of experience as a qualified Primary School Teacher with QTS, I have extensive experience working with children with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, cognitive and learning difficulties, slow processing, and poor working memory. I am confident designing and delivering differentiated lessons that are inclusive, engaging, and accessible to all learners, regardless of their individual needs. I implement a variety of evidence-based strategies tailored to each student's learning profile. These include clear lesson structures, visual supports, multisensory learning techniques, and scaffolded instruction to support diverse cognitive and communication styles.
A bit about me
I live in Leeds with my husband and two children. I have a degree in Primary Education, specialising in Maths, and I’ve spent a lot of time teaching Key Stage 2 students, helping them prepare for their end-of-year tests. I’ve taught in schools across the UK, as well as in Germany and Thailand, which has given me a unique perspective on teaching in different countries and cultures. Travelling is something I’m really passionate about - especially interrailing. I love exploring new places by train, experiencing different cultures, and learning from the diverse environments I visit. These experiences help me bring fresh perspectives into my teaching. I’m organised, dependable, and always strive to help others succeed. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy hiking, discovering new spots, and baking.
My teaching philosophy
My approach to teaching and coaching is centred around understanding each student's specific needs and tailoring my methods to help them succeed. I believe that every learner is unique, so I use multi-sensory teaching techniques to engage different learning styles and ensure that each student has the opportunity to grasp concepts in a way that works best for them. I make sure to break down complex ideas into smaller, manageable steps, creating a clear path to understanding and reducing any feelings of overwhelm. Regular feedback is key to my approach - I ensure students know where they’re doing well and where they can improve, while always offering constructive and encouraging comments to keep them motivated. Above all, I am patient, supportive, and positive. I create a safe, nurturing environment where students feel comfortable to take risks and ask questions, knowing they will be supported throughout their learning journey.

I have been very fortunate to have Lisa as part of my teaching team at BPS. She is an outstanding teacher who always ensures that her students make excellent progress with their learning. She is particularly skilled at supporting those pupils who are currently struggling with key aspects of their learning. She is kind, calm and will make an excellent tutor for primary school aged pupils.

Lisa has made an incredible difference in our child’s learning journey. Our child has cognitive and learning difficulties and has always struggled with sentence structure and grammar. Lisa introduced our child to Colourful Semantics in an engaging way to support language development. The colour-coded approach helped our child break down sentences into manageable parts. This simple but powerful system gave our child the tools to build grammatically accurate sentences with growing confidence. Lisa has patience, creativity, and a good understanding of how to adapt learning strategies for children with additional needs. We are incredibly grateful for Lisa’s dedication and would recommend them without hesitation to any parent seeking specialist support for a child with language difficulties.
