A bit about me
Building trusting and meaningful relationships with my students is the key to help them reach their potential. I am extremely personable, relatable and interested in the things my students are. I am high energy, which inspires fun and engagement. On the other hand, I am highly adaptable, what works one week may not work the next. I believe in having high aspirations yet at the same time I am very pupil-led, in my experience a nurturing and pupil centric approach is key to building trust and engagement. As an English teacher I love books and reading but adapt in various ways - favourite film analysis, trips out, art and projects - I once made a camp with a pretend fire in my classroom to relay stories of oral tradition. I love walking with my son who has ASD and my dog!
My teaching philosophy
Dependant on the desired outcomes we can work towards specific goals or qualifications. Many of my students prefer engagement, confidence building and to reignite a love of learning

***An absolutely exceptional SEN teacher who truly understands PDA and autism*** I cannot recommend Laura highly enough. As a parent of an autistic child with PDA, finding the right educational support has been challenging, but Laura has been nothing short of amazing. What sets her apart is her genuine understanding of how PDA works - Laura doesn’t try to force traditional teaching methods that simply don't work for our children. Instead, she is flexible, collaborative, and incredibly patient. She has built such a strong relationship with my child, who now actually looks forward to their sessions. Every single interaction shows Laura gives 100%. She’s always prepared, creative with her approaches, and adapts to how my child is feeling on any given day. The progress we've seen has been remarkable - not just academically, but in confidence and reduced anxiety around learning. Laura communicates brilliantly with parents too, keeping us informed and working as a real team. It's clear she genuinely cares about my child as an individual, not just another student to get through the curriculum. If you have a child with autism, especially PDA, and you're looking for someone who truly 'gets it' and will advocate for your child, look no further. Laura is absolutely gold standard. Would definitely recommend!

A Wonderful English Tutor for Our Daughter! We are so incredibly grateful for the fantastic English tutoring our daughter received. From the very beginning, she felt comfortable and supported, which made a huge difference in her confidence and willingness to engage with the material. The tutor had a remarkable ability to break down complex concepts into understandable parts, making grammar, essay writing, and literary analysis much less daunting. We saw a significant improvement in our daughter's grades and, more importantly, in her overall understanding and enjoyment of English. She even started looking forward to her sessions! Beyond the academic progress, the tutor also fostered a genuine love for learning. Their patience, encouragement, and engaging approach truly made a positive impact. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dedicated and effective English tutor. Also exceptional knowledge and help with our EHCP process.

Laura is a fantastic teacher, I can’t speak highly enough of her. She was so patient and understanding with my 11 year old who suffers with anxiety. She gave her confidence and built a great relationship with her which meant my daughter went into her SATS with so much more confidence and knowledge. Laura did a great job in explaining things to do my daughter at a level that she would understand. Couldn’t recommend her more! Thank you Laura, I’m sure we will be using you again in the future!
