My experience with special educational needs
My experience includes working in a range of schools and educational organisations to support students with additional learning needs. I have worked as a primary teacher and specialist tutor for over 25 years and am also an experienced & qualified SENCO. I have taught and supported young people with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, MLD, speech and language difficulties, anxiety, PDA and RSD. As part of my MEd I specialised in autism and I currently teach and mentor young adults with autism and ADHD at university. I have vast experience of working with students and young people suffering with anxiety and managing everyday life. I also teach study skills and support students with strategies to support executive function skills.
A bit about me
I know what it is like to not fit in at school, to suffer with anxiety and find social situations awkward. It took me a long time to be comfortable in my own skin and recognise my strengths. I want to make sure others, who feel the same, don't waste time in finding who they are and that they recognise their value and potential, no matter what the barriers are. I can help with that.
My teaching philosophy
I take a warm and friendly approach to teaching and support. I strongly believe in empowering the individual. I do this by recognising and nurturing an individual's strengths and interests, whilst working with their own unique pattern of needs to find solutions and help them grow.
