My experience with special educational needs
With over 27 years of experience in education, I have worked extensively with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across mainstream, independent, and special needs settings. As an experienced head teacher, education consultant, and school inspector, I have dedicated my career to fostering inclusive learning environments where every child, regardless of their needs or vulnerabilities, can thrive. I have worked closely with schools in special measures, leading school improvement initiatives that prioritise tailored support for SEN students. Additionally, my work with children’s charities in developing resources to support children's mental health and well-being reflects my commitment to addressing the holistic needs of all learners. I am passionate about ensuring that every child receives the right support, guidance, and encouragement to reach their full potential.
A bit about me
My long experience has allowed me to work at every level of education, from classroom teaching to executive leadership. My career has taken me across a variety of educational settings, including schools in special measures, where I have supported both staff and students to achieve remarkable progress. My work extends beyond leadership—I have developed national training materials, worked with government agencies, and delivered professional development for educators nationally. Whether mentoring new teachers or advising senior leaders, my focus remains on ensuring the highest standards of education and care for all students, particularly those with SEN and additional needs.
My teaching philosophy
My approach to education is rooted in inclusivity, high expectations, and student-centred learning. I believe that every child deserves an education that meets their unique needs, empowers them with confidence, and equips them with lifelong skills. My extensive experience in school inspections, leadership development, and teacher training has reinforced my belief that strong teaching and pastoral care go hand in hand and as a result I take a reflective and collaborative approach to coaching, supporting both students and educators in their growth. Whether guiding a school through improvement or working one-on-one with a student, my goal is always to inspire resilience, foster independence, and create an environment where everyone can succeed.
