My experience with special educational needs
My experience with special educational needs is deeply personal and multifaceted. I was diagnosed with autism at age 16, which has given me firsthand insight into the challenges and strengths of neurodiversity. I've navigated the educational system with my own unique learning style, understanding the importance of tailored approaches and individualised support. This lived experience, combined with my medical studies and research projects, allows me to approach tutoring with both empathy and a strong foundation in understanding cognitive differences. I've also spent a lot of time volunteering with young people in youth groups, further reinforcing my commitment to providing better support for individuals with diverse learning needs.
A bit about me
I understand that learning can be a complex journey, especially when navigating special educational needs. My own path has been far from traditional. As a young person, I faced significant challenges, including an eating disorder that led to extended absences from school. However, through perseverance and the right support, I not only overcame these obstacles but also discovered my passion for learning and helping others. I believe that everyone has the potential to thrive with the right guidance. I'm dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment where individuals can feel understood and empowered to reach their full potential. I know how hard it can be, I have been there, and I want to use my experience to help others who struggle with the education system.
My teaching philosophy
My approach is highly personalised and centered around the individual's needs, motivations and strengths. I believe in fostering a collaborative partnership, where we work together to identify learning styles, set achievable goals, and develop effective strategies. Key parts to my tutoring include: I create customised plans that address specific learning challenges and build upon existing strengths while prioritising creating a safe and supportive environment where individuals feel heard and understood. I provide practical tools and techniques to improve academic performance, organisational skills, and self-regulation while understanding that learning is not linear, and I am committed to adapting my approach as needed. I consider the whole person, including emotional well-being, to ensure a comprehensive and supportive experience. I aim to empower individuals to become independent learners and achieve their personal goals. I am focused on building confidence and self-advocacy.
