My experience with special educational needs
For a little over ten years, I have had significant experience working with SEN students formally and informally. Ranging from school trips, assisting in and out of classrooms, and private one-on-one tutorials; being able to provide specialized coaching and tutoring for SEN students has been one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling jobs I have had to date!
A bit about me
Not only am I a Canadian living in East Yorkshire, an avid knitter and illustrator, but I also have Special Educational Needs. At school, I struggled to focus, sit still, and hit the same educational goals as my classmates. When told that it was unlikely I would be able to go to university, I decided to figure out my own strategies to help my learning and focus. Once I figured out the best ways for my learning needs, I suddenly enjoyed school, my marks went up, and most importantly, I graduated from university. It is unfortunate that I had to figure this out on my own, but these experiences have not only allowed me to better understand the experience of other SEN learners, but have made me a passionate, caring, and experienced teacher.
My teaching philosophy
My approach to teaching and coaching is to listen to my students and to create a positive and empathetic learning environment. Finally, approaching learning with humor, making the lesson fun for both the tutor and the student :)

Emma is a pleasure to work with. Unfailingly pleasant and incredibly patient with my ADHD kid, who has no attention span whatsoever. She has been attentive, caring and flexible. Under her tutoring, my child has started reading which is so rewarding. I am loving having her as our tutor.
