My experience with special educational needs

With eight years of experience in teaching children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), I have developed a deep understanding of the diverse challenges and strengths that come with supporting students with conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and Global Development Delay. My role has involved creating and implementing individual lesson plans and educational strategies tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. I have consistently provided differentiated classroom support, ensuring that all learners have the opportunity to engage with the curriculum at a pace and level that suits them. Additionally, I have worked closely with students on a one-on-one basis, providing individualised support to enhance their learning experiences and overall development. This experience has equipped me with the skills to adapt my teaching approach and foster a positive, inclusive learning environment for children with a wide range of needs.

A bit about me

As a person and a teacher, I am known for being bubbly, empathetic, and approachable. I strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the classroom, whether that is face-to-face or on a virtual online platform, where every student feels comfortable and valued. My patience allows me to work through challenges with care and understanding, ensuring that each child receives the time and attention they need to thrive. I am consistent in my approach, providing a stable and predictable environment that helps students feel secure and supported. These qualities, combined with my passion for teaching, enable me to build strong, positive relationships with my students, fostering their growth and confidence both academically and personally.

My teaching philosophy

My approach to teaching is to always put the needs of the child first: I believe in understanding each child's unique needs and strengths and then tailoring my teaching strategies to suit their individual learning styles. My approach centres on creating an inclusive, supportive, and personalised learning environment. By being patient, empathetic, and consistent, I aim to build a strong rapport with my students, helping them feel safe and confident. I use clear structures, differentiated instruction, and positive reinforcement to ensure every child can thrive, both academically and personally, while fostering a sense of belonging and achievement.

We used Amy for our daughter whilst she was in primary school as she was struggling with some subjects. Amy was amazing, she was understanding and supportive to our daughter which made the sessions fun rather than challenging. At the end of each session we always received feedback. I would highly recommend Amy as a tutor. She is caring, patient and understands the children’s needs.
