My experience with special educational needs
Upon leaving university, I worked in the SEND department of a mainstream school for two years. My role involved both academic and pastoral elements, providing individually-tailored support in-class and outside to pupils with a diverse range of needs. My academic support entailed giving English interventions (covering KS3 English, GCSE English Language/Literature, and English Functional Skills) and running SEND homework help, and my pastoral work focused on giving 1:1 emotional mentoring to several key pupils, through which I taught them how to use various regulation strategies.
A bit about me
Not only do I have extensive experience working with people who have a variety of SEN needs, but I also have a lot of neurodiversity in my own family. Understanding and learning from everyone's differences is therefore a part of my day-to-day life, and I think it is vital to welcome and nurture these in a classroom setting.
My teaching philosophy
The relationships that I built with students and their families over those two years have helped to shape my personal values and I believe patience and empathy should be at the heart of my teaching. I also welcome creative approaches to learning, and know first-hand how valuable "thinking outside of the box" can be when it comes teaching, particularly when it comes to the humanities where there is so much room for imagination.

Amelia worked with me as my A Level Tutor while I was a student at Mill Hill County High School, teaching me English once a week in the lead up to my exams. As a tutor, Amelia was patient with me, taking me through each question with diligence and understanding. She also demonstrated amazing communication skills, listening to all of my worries and concerns and helping me to navigate them. During her time working with me, we made really impactful progress, and my English Literature grade went from a very low C to a high B. Thanks to Amelia I was accepted into my dream university and graduated with a 2:1 in English Literature and Linguistics. Through her tutoring, Amelia helped to rejuvenate and renew my love for English Literature and I would not be where I am now if it was not for her help. For these reasons I would wholeheartedly recommend her as a tutor, or to work in an educational role again. Amelia is a one of a kind tutor and will truly light up any classroom she steps in.
