My experience with special educational needs
I have 13+ years experience working in the independent sector supporting pupils with SEN. This include 4+ years as a Housemaster (school leader), where it was my responsibility to oversee the academic profile of 70+ teenage boys, many of whom had SEN inc. ADHD, ADD & Autism.
A bit about me
I was the boy that struggled in school - perhaps labelled as disruptive or naughty. It is only as an adult that I realise that my own learning needs weren't supported/noticed at my school. I believe that all pupils have potential and deserve an educator in their lives that has the time and resources to support their academic progress - which is why I love tutoring one-to-one. In addition to my experience working with pupils with SEN, I have developed a excellent understanding of teenage mental health, specifically teenage boys, and the challenges they face as they navigate adolescence in this ever-changing world.
My teaching philosophy
As an educator, I have learned that healthy staff & pupil relationships are crucial for students to achieve their potential. Building strong relationship and trust with pupils quickly is something that comes naturally to me, which enables me to support students and help improve academic confidence. From here we can concentrate on developing academic skills inc. exam technique.
