My experience with special educational needs
I have over 10 years’ experience of working with students with ASD. Throughout my teaching journey, I have learnt different teaching methods which are best suited for learners with autism. It is important to think about how the learner is feeling when communicating with them, whether they are comfortable, happy, sad, anxious, stressed, etc. If an individual feels stressed and appears uncomfortable with eye contact, for example, it may be better to sit at the side of them to reduce their anxiety, so that they do not feel the pressure of having to make eye contact. By using appropriate communication skills, I can provide better support to the individual, allowing them to make their own choices and make them feel respected, valued and in control. I have made recommendations and implemented strategies on EHCPs, to support young people to reach their true potential, developing their social skills, communication skills, ability to emotionally regulate & improve fine and gross motor
A bit about me
I have a compassionate and holistic approach which recognises each learner’s unique struggles and empowers them to develop more positive sense of self.” I successively differentiate learning opportunities to enable all learners, including gifted and talented pupils and those with SEN to enjoy learning and achieving their goals with the mainstream setting. I will always count targets outlines with the individual education plans (IEPs) when planning lessons and setting targets.
My teaching philosophy
I am a highly capable and professional English teacher with a focus on student learning and engagement. Passionate and experienced facilitator with over 10 years’ service educating children and young adults. TEFL certified native English speaking teacher. Adept in all aspects of activities in the four areas of learning language: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. In the past five years, I have dedicated myself to the teaching and mentoring field particularly with ESOL and SEND pupils in schools and colleges. I joined the teaching profession after completing my Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Media at Middlesex University. After graduation, I worked as a SEN Learning Assistant working 1:1 with a young child with ASD. I enjoy making a difference and nurturing young minds which was something that always appealed to me, through tutoring and mentoring children and young people at different learning abilities.
